Valandraud
Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife, Murielle Andraud, are at the creators of this estate. Former traders, they now produce their own wines. They founded the castle in the early 90s, creating the concept of garage’s wines. You can define this concept as a wine, produced in small quantities, in order to offer a high quality wine, but unfortunately often at an exorbitant price. The 10 hectares of the château Valandraud are located in Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse and are composed as followed: one hectare of white grapes (confidential production) and 9 acres of red grapes. The area was formed parcel by parcel. The wines of château Valandraud are made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Carmenère. The Carmenère grape is an ancient grape, reused today for its large aromatic palette that gives it a late maturity. Different wines are produced at the estate: château Valandraud, Virginie de Valandraud, 3 de Valandraud, and in collaboration with Michel Rolland, Jean-Philippe Fort and Remy Dalmasso. The name of the château Valandraud comes from the geographic location, “Val de Fongaban” and from “Andraud”, first name of Murielle Andraud.
